electric fields in the same direction get added or subtracted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Added...Electric field is a vector...so when in same direction two vectors get added up just like scalars...The resultant electric field has the same direction as of the component electric fields.

OpenStudy (shivaniits):

truely added|dw:1343638163106:dw| now the final value of electric field could be computed as: E=\[\left( sqrt{E1^{2}+E'1^{2}+E1timesE'1 times cos theta} \right)\] now here theta=0 so they would be added like normal scalars....

OpenStudy (shivaniits):

sorry the equation doesn't get printed E=sqrt(E1^2+E'1^2+E1timesE'1times cos theta)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of course added....subtract if opposite direction :)
