Quick question: How can I enter this into a scientific calculator? log(base5)6.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm. Well you could always just use the log property, for example: log base 2 of 15 is log(15)/log(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for you, log(6.2)/log(5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Super1337ist that is correct. scientific calculators only use base 10 or e...so you need to use this identity to convert to other bases.

I just noticed the question says use common logarithms, is this the same thing you are talking about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Common logarithm is log with base 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm isnt that kind of what we just did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. Essentially. If you need to do other logs with computers or calculators, you need to use that property (which uses the common log) to convert it to another base. So, in all detail, your formula should be log[base 10](6.2)/log[base 10](5)

okay cool thank you

Cheers.
