If N = {positive integers} and subset C = {positive even integers}, what is C′? {1, 3, 5, 7, …} { } {… −7, −5, −3, −1} {2, 4, 6, 8, …}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{1,2,3,4....}-{2,4,6,....} =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There a two families or set of integers or whole numbers. The first set, is the even numbers and the next is odd numbers {1, 3, 5, 7, 9,.......} See if you can continue this set?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it C.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or A.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{1,2,3,4....}-{2,4,6,....} =? So you knock out 2,4,6 etc from the first one, you are left with what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,3,5,7...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Better, why don't you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its A. or C. but im not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey, I'm.confused now too:) That is the positive odd numbers. Also, you have the positive even numbers too! Then, the negative odd and negative even numbers too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, we are starting out with N = {positive integers} That's what it says in the question. Agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well Sam the first example that I gave was the correct awnser.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, So that's {1,2,3,4...} Agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We are trying to see how to get the answer, not just give the answer (ideally)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the question says that we have a subset (ie a part ) of the one we just looked at... Agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That part is {2,4,6,....}Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That a yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, the C' is basically saying what is left in the first set after you took away the second one....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the only tricky bit.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ie N= C +C'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When all sets under consideration are considered to be subsets of a given set U, the absolute complement of A (denoted A') is the set of all elements in U but not in A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is why my first reply was {1,2,3,4....}-{2,4,6,....} =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Get it or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea i understand now thanks a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur welcome
