allow shorter bump time
Hi DI_KAZ, We're actually pretty happy with the bump times that we've currently set. What don't you like about it? What situations have not been met by the current implementation?
Over time, it gets two long. For example, it is not necessary to make users wait 2 Weeks before bumping a question. There should be a limit. I'd say you shouldn't have to wait longer than an hour to bump a question.
@farmdawgnation
What valid reason do you have for bumping a question that many times?
I like it shorter for when I make a tutorial or other post that I want people to see...I mean 1800 minutes for something? Really? no fair ;P Okay, in all seriousness, I like how the bump times are set. They make it fair for all users to get their questions answered.
What reason is there to make someone wait longer than an hour to bump a question? I don't believe that would create a situation where people are continuously bumping questions. But to make a student wait longer than an hour is torture. I think common sense applies here.
If they are that desperate they could "re-ask" the same question, I think?
i think i agree with Hero on the idea of a bump limit wherein when it reaches that limit the bump time will always be just that time. i dont know about 1 hour though...
I'm not entirely sure I agree with you Hero. The only group where questions really seem to stick around for that long is OpenStudy Feedback, and that's not really what we want to be using as our baseline for the rest of the site. I feel as though most questions clear out within a few bumps pretty effectively in Math and other groups. Has this not been your experience?
Okay, what you just said is exactly the reason why the limit should only be an hour. And people are requesting shorter bump times. Not all questions are created equal. I think more thought has to be put into it @farmdawgnation . I think you mean that easy math questions clear pretty easy. And most of the easy ones do. Also you have to consider that for particular questions, more than 3 bumps may be required. Right now, basically 1st Bump - 10 minutes 2nd Bump - 20 minutes 3rd Bump - 40 minutes 4th Bump - 60 minutes 5th Bump - 120 minutes Okay, so I'm just curious as to why it is necessary and reasonable to have anyone wait 120 minutes to bump their question when a 60 minute limit is clearly a solution that would end the long wait times. I don't see any possible problem that could result from this. "The only questions that seem to stick around are "feedback questions". Hmmm, that's interesting but you have to consider a couple of things: 1. Most people don't have a long laundry list of questions to post in OS Feedback. They usually come and just post the one question that they have and they come and check on it a few times. However, in the math chat, people usually have multiple questions they wish to ask. 2. Every now and then a student for any subject group will possibly have a really good research-level or project-related question for example. Okay, so let's just say for example, the question just basically got ignored for the first three bumps. Okay, so now they're on the fourth bump and they basically have to wait an hour to bump again. Okay, so even if a couple users respond with some helpful info, they probably wouldn't want to close the question and re-post it again. They'll probably want to bump the question again, but now they're at the 5th bump and have to wait 120 minutes. Is that fair? Nope. Happens to me though.
I just don't see how it is in the interests of OS users to keep the bump times the way they are. 120 minutes + . How about waiting a whole day to bump a question? Wouldn't that be nice?
One time I waited for 1800+ minutes to bump a tutorial. *worth it*
Okay, but tutorials are different because they're not related to assignments. Those are volunteering-type posts that aren't "questions". So that's not really of much concern. I'm more of representing the group of users who are working on research papers and projects. You know, "need-based" questions.
I'm not trying to downplay tutorials. They do have their usefulness
for the record i have had questions (real important ones) that reached big bump times. i kept bumping it but no one knew how to solve it. and when the users who actually knew what i was talking about went online my bump went gray. i know i can just tag them or link them but still...
I guess project deadlines are not taken into consideration in the decision process for reducing bump times.
