The lower base of a trapezoid is twice as long as the upper base.If the height of the trapezoid is 20m and its area is 12cm.What is the lengths of the bases?

OpenStudy (allank):

Area of a trapezoid = 0.5(a+b)h where a and b are the base lengths and h is the height Substitute the values of a,b and h in the equation: 12=0.5(x+2x)20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well @allank i think units are different of height and area...and one of them needs to be converted

OpenStudy (allank):

@harsimran True, overlooked. that. but that value is quite large, don't you think? @Faye281 is it really 20m?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes...agreed @allank

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait its 12 cm^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@allank its 12cm^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and height 20m??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (allank):

Interesting...well, do it as it is. convert to similar units as @harsimran said. the logical error was made by the question setter. lol
