How can I succeed in College?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Go to class. Do your homework.

OpenStudy (blues):

Do what is expected of you. No less, no more. College programs are structured to pass through the greatest number of students with the least amount of administrative effort and profs, department heads and deans waste no love on exceptional people. Being a realist, of course.

Study, study, study. Focus. Don't party too much xD

Go to class and visit your professors when you are confused.

Never underestimate the power of going to office hours. Even if you don't have a question, at least get to know your professors early in the semester. If you have trouble with the material later on, they will be more likely to help you if they can put your name to a face. The same is true if they are deciding between a B+ and an A-, for example.

OpenStudy (day_2010):

Get to know your professors is a must! Say hi, be nice and they will become putty. I have learned to keep in mind 'they are people like you and I and are no different.' Make sure to get adequate rest and study. Stay organized and take good notes. Always be ahead if you can. Keep in touch with people around your class as they will help you in times of need. Basically, keep communication up. ALWAYS ask questions... at least if your professor allows. :)

Also, good luck! :)

All they people who said go to class and use the professor's office hours have given good advice. Also, budget for the required textbooks--they can be quite expensive but are crucial.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I actually disagree somewhat on the textbooks thing. You'd be surprised how many professors list a "required" textbook that ends up never being used in the course. There were several times this happened to me. You buy a $60-200 book, take it home, put it on a shelf, and it sits there the rest of the semester or else gets used once. My advice is to at least go to the first or second day of classes before buying your textbook. Listen to the professor talk about the class and ask about how the textbook will be used before deciding whether or not to buy it. It's a dumb reality, but in many courses, the textbooks are expensive, and totally non-essential.

OpenStudy (day_2010):

^^^^^ All too true. :] I have bought books and never cracked them. What sucks is when you try to sell the book back and they don't even except that book because it's too old. funny ot was the NEW edition when I bought it. Better yet, they want to give you a WAY less buyback price than you even paid for it, although it's brand new. It's crazy! They can add a surplus on a book that has a page or chapter added. Worst of all the professor will usually skip over the page and or chapter. *sigh* :/ :) --- I can recommend buying online for cheaper prices and try renting them. Also, check your colleges library to see if they have a student copy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@loujoelou knows where to buy textbooks for super cheap and like, brand new. c:

OpenStudy (day_2010):

Ooo I want to know where to buy books for cheap! :D I usually check Barnes&Noble (online), Textbooks.com, and some other site I forgot lol. But I would like to know more :) After all Knowledge is power! :]
