A line has a slope of 2 and a y-intercept of (0, -4). What is the value of y when x = 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are linear equations.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Do you know what the slope-intercept form of a line is? If so, you can literally drop the slope, x-value, and y-intercept given in the problem right into it, then solve for y. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=2x-4 ?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

y = 2x - 4 is the equation of the line. Now let x = 6 in the above equation and solve for y. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=12-4 y=8

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

You got it! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i did the same thing for another problem...."A line has a slope of -2/3 and a y-intercept of (0, 3). What is the value of y when x = 4?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the answer y=5.666 is this correct?
