what is cat in the box effect in quantum mechanics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um, I think it meant this, yes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat It's a metaphor used to explain a paradox in quantum mechanics. One interpretation you see a lot: "The quantum-mechanical 'Schrödinger's cat' paradox according to the many-worlds interpretation. In this interpretation, every event is a branch point. The cat is both alive and dead—regardless of whether the box is opened—but the "alive" and "dead" cats are in different branches of the universe that are equally real but cannot interact with each other."

I don't know who edited that particular Wiki article but they actually did a very good job! I'd would definitely recommend reading it.
