Two polygons are congruent and the perimeter of the first polygon is 24 cm. If the sides of the second polygon are consecutive integers (x, x+1, x+2, x+3, etc.), what value of x makes the polygons into congruent triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Congruent means same area, same perimeter, same side lenghts, etc. Therefore, the perimeter is also 24 and it's in 3 consecutive integers to form a triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just solve for x in the equation. \[x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 24\]

OpenStudy (ledah):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. What do you get for x?

OpenStudy (ledah):

7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup :)

OpenStudy (ledah):

thanks
