2u^5+15u^4+25u^3 - can anyone help me with factoring please

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

factor out a u^3

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

u^3(2u^2+15u +25)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well right off the bat, you can factor out u^3 u^3(2u^2 + 15u + 25) now the question is whether that trinomial is factorable to tell if a polynomial is factorable, write out the factors of the first and last term(2 and 25). one of them must add up to the middle term (15) if the equation is factorable 2 factors into 1,2 25 factors into 1,5,25 there's no way to add the factors of 2 and 25 to equal 15. therefore, it's factored in: u^3(2u^2 + 15u + 25)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is as far as I get, but I know it can be factored lower...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it cant be lol, just proved it

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

u^3(2u^2+10u+5u+25) u^3(2u(u+5)+5(u+5)) u^3(2u+5)(u+5)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

sure it can

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

and that is by no means a proof:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!!!! zzr0ck3r

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

AC method 2(25) = 50 10(5) = 50 10 + 5 = 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm, should have used b^2 - 4ac instead to check if it was factorable and yeah lol definitely not a proof

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

no need for descriminant it factors fine with AC

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

so you said the factors are 2(25) and that does not add to 15, but you do not have to use 2(25) you can use any factors of 50 like 5(10) that do add to 15
