Which of the following is not an equivalent form of the compound inequality x - 1 < -12 or x + 12 > 10 (5 points) A) x < -11 or x > -2 B) A number line with an open circle on -11, shading to the left, and an open circle on -2, shading to the right. C) A number line with an open circle on -11, an open circle on -2, and shading in between. D) x > -2 or x < -11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D and A are the same you catch that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i was actually wondering why it was like that, but thats what was on my sheet

It's to trick you. Sometimes they do that on tests. We can only have one right answer so right away we know it can't be A or D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 1 < -12 Lets get x by itself. To do that we have to add 1 to both sides in order to get rid of that -1 ...what do we get then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x < -11 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right that means that in a number line -11 will have an open circle right?
