How did the communist takeover of mainland China impact U.S. foreign policy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Relations with the US pretty much chilled. The United States backed the Nationalists that Mao Zedong and his Communists had defeated, for one thing. The US would even go so far as to sign a mutual defense pact with the Nationalists (who had fled to present-day Taiwan) in case China attacked them. This also played into the "domino theory" that US policymakers formulated in the late 1940's. The theory feared if one country fell to communism in a region, others would soon follow, leading the US to try and intervene within those countries it felt were threatened.

so this would then lead them into reinstating the open door policy right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, China would open up a tiny crack much later in the 70s under Nixon when relations began to thaw. But China would only really begin to open its doors to the rest of the world under Deng Xiaoping after Mao had passed. Deng was eager to jump start the economy of China to get things moving again, and this eventually led to a new open policy that we know today.

so then of these answers , which one is closest to what happened ? It led President Truman to drop atomic bombs on Japan. It prompted President Truman to reinstate the Open Door policy. It pushed President Truman to expand containment to include Asia. It convinced President Truman to provide military support to South Vietnam.

I'd say it pushed Truman to expand containment to include Asia. The idea of containment was to keep communism from spreading out which was feared under the domino theory.
