graph the line y=5x-5
do you have graph paper at home?
no:(
:(
how ya gunna do this then?
gunna manually draw it with blue pens? or print off some grid paper?
i really dont know how to do it thats why im on here
The -5 in y = 5x - 5, means the line lands on -5 on the y - axis. So mark -5 as a point. Next, since 5 is the slope and slope is rise/run ( 5/1) go up 5 spaces and over 1 space, which is your next point. Then connect the points and you have your line.
Sorry, was afk for a bit. Well you can draw out some stuff like this:

|dw:1343095007814:dw|
thanks! i have to do two more of these though...
Then you start plugging in values for x. IE: 1, 2, 3, 4... etc. Just a couple and then you'll have figured out what you're line will look like.
The formula is y = mx + b , the b is a point on the y-axis, the m is the slope (rise/run) which you count from the point b.
http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/plain/ You can click, downloadPDF and you'll have graph paper. If you have a printer, than print some off. It'll making graphing these things a whole heck of a lot easier. :D
ok but now theres a slope with a fraction..
Thats fine. It's just counting Rise (up) and run ( side to side) for example 3/4 would be up 3 and right 4 counting from point b.
or if it's negative like -3/4 or 3/-4 would be down 3 and right 4 or up 3 and left 4.
so the slope is y=-1/4x+3
Yes. The slope would be down 1 and then right 4 units starting at y = 3.
y = 3 which is a point in that equation because b is 3.
ok so the points are 3 for the y axis and then whats x?
remember y =mx+b, m=slope and b=y-intercept aka, where it goes through the y-axis.
points on the x axis you would usually see AFTER you get the line. |dw:1343095477627:dw|
