What is the perimeter of the following polygon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24 units 16 units 10 units 44 units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what class is this for?? Trig hopefully? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its algebra 2 :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well we have two triangles. But we dont know the base for each of those triangles. We have to figure out how to create an equation to find it. I think I have an idea, but before i spill the beans, what do you think you could do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2 bh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well that would get us the area, not perimeter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To get the perimeter we need to be able to sum all the sides together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, well i think i have to multiply 4*2 and 6*2 then add them together? which would be 20 but thats not an option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We need to come up with a way to figure out the other two sides. Before i go on, there is one important thing you'll need to know to even get there. Do you know the distance formula or Pythagorean identity?
