Using the periodic table, choose the more reactive non-metal. Br or As and Br and At

@Chlorophyll @asnaseer @Calcmathlete

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

sorry - I am hopeless at Chemistry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry to bother you guys ^^^ Im just desperate....Thx @asnaseer for taking interest

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yw :) sorry I couldn't help.

@TheViper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its okay

OpenStudy (theviper):

May this person help I m weak @ chemistry sorry @apoorvk :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it ok thanks anyway

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Bromine and Arsenic (same period - IVth) - Bromine is a non-metal with one valency, whereas Arsenic shows semi-conductor like properties and its valency is 5. The nuclear attraction is higher on the valence shell for Br, as well as it needs just one electron to satisfy its octet - so Br is definitely more reactive here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so Br is more reactive than As

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Bromine and Astatine (At) [same group] - again I would say Br is more reactive - again because Br is more electronegative (due to relative proximity of the valence shell from the nucleus).

OpenStudy (theviper):

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Yes, in both cases here, Br.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you sooooo much @apoorvk....YOU TOO @TheViper

OpenStudy (theviper):

hehe welcome:) Thanx apporvk bhaiya :)
