provide me with the following sets.....IR,Q,complex numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Boldface R stands for real numbers, all numbers in the real line.. Q stands for Rational numbers, all numbers such that you can write them as a fraction a/b, where b is not 0 and Complex numbers are any numbers in the form a+bi where a and b are real numbers...i'm not sure if this is what you wanted...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for Q numbers u are correcct ......but i want a set not in words @mashe

OpenStudy (dominusscholae):

In set notation? \[\mathbb{Q} = \left\{ x \left| x = a/b, a, b \epsilon \mathbb{Z}^+ or \mathbb{Z}^- \right| \right\}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[Complex Number = {z:z=a+ib , a,b \in \mathbb{R}, i=\sqrt{-1}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i not correct since division by zero is not allowed....u should have been stated that [b \neq 0\]..

@dominusscholae

OpenStudy (dominusscholae):

Ahh yes, sorry about that. Overlooked it. Easier if I were writing this, but thanks for noting.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[\mathbb R=(-\infty,\dots,\infty)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if \[i \neq \sqrt{-1}\] ??@ vikrantg4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to specify what every symbol stands for in a set notation. thus if you specify that a and b are real numbers and i=sqrt(-1) in a+bi you are good to go...also check out http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ComplexNumber.html
