Why is the sky blue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Urgent!!!

OpenStudy (dominusscholae):

The sky is blue due to a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering. Imagine the water droplets in the sky as little prisms. When light passes through the droplets, it diffracts the light into its visible components. At the angle in which one can see the blue sky (during the middle of the day), blue light will scatter more than other colors, and thus blue dominates the morning sky.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes !! but it's refraction not diffraction

OpenStudy (dominusscholae):

>.< DOH.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
