6/2(1 + 2)

OpenStudy (angela210793):

how come ur asking this? O.o

OpenStudy (anikate):

9

OpenStudy (anikate):

3*1 + 3*2

OpenStudy (compassionate):

6/2(1+2) = 1 because multiplication come before division

OpenStudy (anikate):

left to right

OpenStudy (anikate):

whichever comes first

OpenStudy (compassionate):

6/2(1+2) = 6/2(3) = this is where multiplication is done first rather than division 6/6 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will be 9..

OpenStudy (anikate):

yup that's what I said

OpenStudy (anikate):

plz post ur question in EQUATION app/ option below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(6 \div2(1 + 2) = 6 \div 2 \times 3 = 3 \times 3 = 9\)

OpenStudy (anikate):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer will be 1 if: \(6 \div (2(1 + 2))\) For this answer will be 1.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

6/2(1+2) PEMDAS Step 1: Add 1 and 2 because they is in the parenthesis Step 2: Multiply 3 and 2 first because multiplication comes before division Step 3: Simply divide 6 by 6 Answer: 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In case of multiplication and division are there acting simultaneously then we prefer left to right.. For this case division comes first..

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

you first distribute 6/(2*1+2*2) 6/6 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In BODMAS, division comes first and then multiplication..

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

1 makes more sense to me. eventhough it is wrong as per wolfromalpha/calculators

OpenStudy (anikate):

PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, obviously according to the order of operations, it's 6 / 2 * 3 = 9, BUT often notation is such that x / yz means (especially with spaces like that) \[\frac{x}{yz}\] For example, "Concrete Mathematics" by Knuth uses it. Oficially it's wrong, but fairly common.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And, my God, it's neither multiplication before division nor the opposite. They are both of equal priority.
