Suki hits a baseball with a bat. Which of the following equations expresses the energy in the system immediately before and after the ball connects with the bat? A. kinetic energy of pitched baseball = kinetic energy of hit baseball B. potential energy of pitched baseball = kinetic energy of hit baseball C. kinetic energy of pitched baseball = kinetic energy of hit baseball + sound energy of ball hitting bat + thermal energy of ball hitting bat D. potential energy of pitched baseball = potential energy of hit baseball + sound energy of ball hitting bat + thermal energy of ball hitt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think any of these options are correct. You have to include the bat in the picture. My answer would be: KE (pitched ball) \[+\] KE (bat just before hitting) \[=\] KE (hit ball) \[+\] KE (bat just after hitting) \[+\] sound energy of ball hitting bat \[+\] thermal energy of ball hitting bat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i think it is c).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rajath its not elastic collision so you can not be precise about momentum of bat after hit. . .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the KE of the hit ball>KE of the pitched ball, what do you do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

& that's why I'v eincluded other forms of energy, @theyatin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then if it is elsatic collison then after collision k.e of ball>k.e. of bat and bat wil recoil if not then bat will move forward

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let it be rajath i cant convince you about this sorry but according to me answer is c0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, what i meant was if the KEof the hit ball>KE of the pitched ball, then, the sound energy & heat would have to be -ve according to C)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whatever you are not considering here energy of bat so negative positive doesnt matters
