Choose the correct slope of the line that passes through the points (0, -5) and (0, 7.5). 3/2 2/3 -3/2 -2/3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Subtract the y coordinates. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the slope:\[y _{2}-y _{1}\over x _{2}-x _{1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just do y2 - y1 divided by x2 - x1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, once you have that, you’ll have a fraction, which is your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[7.5-(-5)\over0-0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

work that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I Know,i just can figure out the answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

There has to be a typo somewhere since none of the answer choices listed are actually the true answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 7 1/2 not 7.5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the two points are (0, -5) and (0, 7 1/2) ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i think

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh that's (7.5, 0)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that might explain your error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is infinity. Unless there’s a mistake in the typing here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Infinity, or error.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So the two points should be (0,-5) and (7.5, 0) you can write them as (0,-5) and (7 1/2, 0) or as (0,-5) and (15/2, 0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why would you write them as 7 1/2 , that’s a completely different lesson

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an old useless grade 8 math lesson of proper fractions. never use them. only use improper. or if you can, decimals. I’m just saying, proper fractions could get you docked, depending on where you learn.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about this one what would be the slope for this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 -2 1/2 or -1/2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

can you list two points that lie on that line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

[0,-3],[-1.5,0]?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good, do you know how to use these points to find the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract then divide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 :) got it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes that's correct, nice work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so muchh!!!!
