Yeah but we have enough users to deal with the large amount of questions. And I've experienced some problems because of that. I knew only one person who could help me in Linear Algebra and even then it took hours and days to get some help.

- and as far as making specific categories for different maths, we used to have more. They went quite unused...
Mr.Math and I created the Meta-math section (rarely used now)
Lalalay created differential equations L (rarely used)
and we still have the OCW calc sections (rarely used)
so I'd denounce the idea of putting in new math sections

Hmm, sounds like a good idea there @Hero. When it comes to new groups, it always boils down to demand - if there's a sufficient desire for a group, then we'll definitely create it.

For example, we recently added Geography as a group due to repeated requests - we currently have 4 members in that group :P

I think that counts people who come and then leave. The point is that a lot of people said they'd join Geography, so Colm, (or whoever) made it an official group and now there are only 4 active members. Lots of people will/can go in and out of a subject. It's just a matter of who stays there. If there are only going to be 2 people who join this group, it's pointless to make it official and take up more space on the thingy.

@Romero , this is true but that's also because most degrees do not require linear algebra. So as you get higher and higher up ladder, less people have taken those classes. Politics and Government is more of a generalized topic. Perhaps maybe World Politics and Government and US politics and Government?

Most schools break it up even more than that. I just have a feeling that a "Politics and Government" section would be as Romero speaks of Linear Algebra. If someone is taking a specific politics class, what is the chances that someone in the section is knowledgeable on that same specific class

Because you're trying to discourage the formation of the group, which I don't appreciate. You overlooked the fact that one of the reasons why Linear Algebra isn't so popular is because, well, there's a mathematics group that gets way more attention than Linear Algebra. Of course Linear Algebra is only a sub-group of the mathematics section. When users first come here, what is the first subject they see? Mathematics. So your comment really is not related to this suggestion imo.

Um , maybe you misread. I'm not talking about the Linear Algebra section (if there is even one). I was talking about how Romero's problem relates to the Mathematics section. So many times have I also experienced a problem with getting help for my classes in the mathematics section(classes such as differential equations, high calculus, linear algebra). And if you're actually implying that I'm discouraging the formation of groups, you need to reread my earlier messages. I said It was too broad, and that splitting it into world/us politics could help . Colleges do the same thing. You don't take a Politics class; You take a specialized class (world politics, us politics, european politics, etc.). You need to read before you judge, Hero, You need to read before judging; Not one time did I say creating a new group for politics and government was a bad idea.

If it were me, I'd have a way to split the Core classes into smaller sub sections through the core class. So, for example, You click on Mathematics, and it pulls down all the sections of Math. That way people can post them in specific topics. On top of that, another great(that would work together with the above) idea would be to allow, those people that can solve the higher level classes, to be notified of certain questions in certain sections. For example , someone posts a question on Linear algebra sub section. When it is posted a notification is sent to whoever has signed up to solve those specific problems. It's a much slower way of getting answers (when it comes to the higher classes) however it is guaranteeing that the people who can help see that one needs help.

This would include tons of revamping of OS. One would be some way to sort these questions, such as keywords that someone can put in to send it to a specific section ( such as asking what class the question is from)
