Graphing transformation problem: If you have h(x) = 1/2f(2x-1) is f just denoting the function? and what does the 1/2 do? I know that 2x will cause dilation and -1 causes a shift of 1 unit to the right in the graph. But what is 1/2 doing? Should I carry it out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do I multiply 1/2 by 2 and 1/2 by -1 and then graph??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think 1/2 is the scaling factor..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh really? not the number in front of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know the function exactly so you can't distribute 1/2 directly..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*dont

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. so 1/2 means I scale the y values down by 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are making your function half by 1/2 that it means actually..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I have a peak at the point 2,2. it will become 2,1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that what youare saying???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No not exactly.. I don't know much about this. Sorry...
