The people in a location are facing unemployment problems. A mining company plans to start uranium mining in the location. In your own words, explain how the people, economy, and environment of the location would be affected by uranium mining.

OpenStudy (stephstar101):

So this is really a thinking question. Knowing that Uranium is a radioactive element, already can figure out some effects. People: The people (supposedly the ones that were unemployed) who are mining the Uranium probably aren't going to have a great time. Since Uranium is radioactive, it can cause people to have an drastically increased risk of cancer. In addition to the radioactivity, the mines themselves are most likely not in the greatest working conditions, and cave-ins may happen from time to time. The people in the surrounding area are going to be affected by the radioactivity as well. Economy: Yay, uranium! Bombs! Other sciencey stuff! More than likely, the uranium mining will create an influx of Uranium and drive down the price of Uranium as well as its products. Environment: Horrible consequences will occur, since there is radioactivity introduced to the land and that never ends well with nature. You can add other comments as you see fit, but those would be my answers! :)
