OpenStudy (megannn):

Could someone show me how to solve a problem like this. Simplify the rational expression. State any excluded values. Picture below.

OpenStudy (megannn):

OpenStudy (wach):

Is there a way that you can simplify the expression so that both the numerator (top) and denominator (bottom) have something in common that you can eliminate?

OpenStudy (megannn):

I am not sure. Is there? @wach

OpenStudy (wach):

Yes. An approach you could take would be factoring the denominator, X^2 + 3x - 10

OpenStudy (megannn):

@wach okay. could you walk me through it so I will understand it all. sorry for the long reply.

OpenStudy (wach):

Sure. We can factor the denominator, thus finding two 'parts' that can be multiplied to get it. It's easy to draw it out: |dw:1343415941394:dw|
