why were chytrids once classified as protists?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because they reproduce with spores right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have flagellated zoospores, whereas most fungi lack flagella

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you(:

The difference between protists and things that are not protists is a pretty arbitrary one anyway, not based on how the organisms are related or how they evolved. Fungi, like animals, are members of Opisthokonta... a taxon that contains many protists as well.
