Solve the equation. 9a + 3 = 6a+ 6

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Get all the 'a' terms to one side. Then get everything else to the other side.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

How do we do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont no

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

We want 'a' all by itself. So why not isolate it on the left side 9a + 3 = 6a+ 6 ... Start with the given equation. 9a + 3-3 = 6a+ 6-3 ... Subtract 3 from both sides. 9a = 6a + 3 ... Combine like terms. Then what's next?

3a = 3 a = 1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you nailed it
