Which of the following is the most effective opening sentence for an introductory paragraph? A. I heard a loud sound before I collapsed. B. Bang! That was the last sound I heard before I collapsed. C. The loud sound was the last thing I heard before I collapsed. D. None of the above.
If this is for formal writing, I don't think that any of these would be appropriate, unless the rest of the essay had to do with a subject presented here, and was just a 'hook'.
Which option do you think is correct? It depends on the writing application. For example , if this is informal writing ..
B. is an emphatic sentence that draws the attention of the readers. But it is only relative to the rest of the contents of what you are writing. http://bcs.bedfordstmartins.com/bedhandbook7enew/Player/Pages/Main.aspx
It depends on what kinda essay you're writing actually.... if it is a account, (b) shud be alright... but if u're writing a reccount, the best is (a) and (c)..
I think A is correct. B is not correct because it feels more like something you'd read in a book; not a school paper. I don't think C is correct because it states, "The loud sound..." WHAT loud sound? You haven't told us, yet what the sound was. As an opening sentence, it will confuse the reader. Therefore, I think A is correct because of the words "A loud sound." With this wording, you can then proceed to tell us about the sound.
