what is y=x^2-4x-11 in general form

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

by general form, do they mean \[y = (x-h)^{2} +k\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

then \[y=(x^2-4x+4)-11-4.\]Do this:)

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

I just added 4 & subtracted 4 so that the question remains unchanged but this is a trick to get answer. as @dumbcow said:)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

its called completing the square...take the "x" coefficient, cut it in half, then square it thats how you know what to add to make it a perfect square

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

yeah:D
