Deon has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. In an effort to lower his blood pressure, the doctor has recommended that he decrease his intake of protein. sodium. vitamin A. vitamin C.

OpenStudy (anas.p):

Sodium (salt), will be recommended by the doctor to reduce the blood pressure. Vitamic would be recommended to increase.

It is sodium. Too much salt increases blood pressure, although we do need a small amount of salt in order for our body's blood stream to operate. Here is a good article about sodium, high BP, and hypertension: http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletters/Harvard_Mens_Health_Watch/2010/October/salt-and-your-health

Sodium attracts or draws water. When we consume (eat/drink) sodium, it soon ends up in the bloodstream. The sodium in the blood then draws water into the blood stream (essentially to help even out or normalize the concentration of the blood). Since the blood now has more 'volume,' there is an increase in pressure pushing against the walls of the blood vessels (arteries)...known as blood pressure.
