how many times does the graph of y=x^2+1 cross the x-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember the standard form of a parabola: y=m(x-h)^2+k. In your question, you'll have m=1, which is positive, so the parabola opens upwards. h=0, and k=1 so the vertex of the parabola will be at (0,1). Now, you know the vertex is one unit above the x-axis and the parabola opens upward. Does the graph cross the x axis at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you say that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it only crosses one time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I crosses the y axis once, yes. Do you know what the graph looks like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

Go to fooplot.com and put your equation in and you will see.
