When you simplify each side of the equation 4(x + 3) = 5 – (x + 1), you will get the equivalent equation 4x + 12 = -x + 4. TRUE OR FALSE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why don't u try simplifying it...i'll help out if u go wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I DONT KNOW HOW TO SIMPLIFY IT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the LHS, multiply 4 to BOTH the terms inside the bracket. for RHS, simply open the bracket and change the signs accordingly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the first part is 4x+12 but idk how to do it when there is a negative out of the parenthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u know how we can write +2 as -(-2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically, for the LHS u multiplied 4 with each term inside the bracket right? in RHS, instead of 4, u have to multiply the minus sign with both the terms inside the bracket. do this...and u'll get ur answer.
