solving an inequality is just like solving an equation, theres just an inequality sing in place of the equal sign :) so we treat them the same: \[-7y-17>11\]add the 17 over to the other side\[-7y>28\]divide the -7 over to the other side\[y<-4\] ^ since we divided by a negative we have to flip the sign

when graphing an inequality on a number line you have to decide whether the dot will be open or closed, for which you look at the inequality sign: \[>~or~< ~open\]\[\ge ~or~\le~closed\] our equation \[y<-4\]will have an open dot... next we need to see which way (left or right) the arrow will go. since y is any number greater than negative 4 the arrow will be going to the right (numbers higher than negative 4):|dw:1343845309805:dw|
