I need someone to help me with hyperbolas, I keep entering an answer but it comes up wrong every time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, those are the little f**kers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to find the vertices of the hyperbola: (y+@)^2/1 - (x+9)^2/9 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats y+2 not y+@

OpenStudy (rogue):

Got this little chart from Paul's notes. It pretty much has all you need to know about hyperbolas =P

OpenStudy (rogue):

In your case, k = -2, h = -9, b = 1, a = 3. So the vertices are (-9, -1) and (-9, -3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

says incorrect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no idea why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its what i got too...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

missing a comma between the parenthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you pelletting me...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

computers can be soo picky

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pelletting? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice swear correction

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's the filter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iknow

OpenStudy (rogue):

Wow, I absolutely hate these types of online homeworks with a retarded computer.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah something so silly makes it completely wrong isn't fair, but oh well

OpenStudy (rogue):

AP Chemistry was so annoying because of UTexas, something similar to this.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

just be sure to follow the rules, read the instructions, etc etc the best you can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks jim, your right

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and check and double check everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

suprised i got to 98% of this program without knowing that

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

seems like this is probably the first time something like this has come up

OpenStudy (rogue):

Yeah, but you have to be super careful, or else you easily lose points on your homework. I remember every time I was so sure I was right, but the computer spat out a red "incorrect." It got very frustrating :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it would be nice if it would say how/where you got it wrong, but computers aren't that smart (yet)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trying to make a joke, you math people are so hard to please...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lol that's true

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

we're very finicky...
