The question is the following: "If you divide 2 and 7/10 by 3/10, why do you move the decimal?" I realize that you must move the decimal of .3 to the right by one place value (multiplying by 10) and effectively getting 3 (a whole number, and 27 from 2.7), and that the divisor must always be a whole number; however, is there another reason *why* the divisor must be a whole number other than if you were trying to distribute 2.7 pencils to .3 kids, you can't distribute to three-tenths of a kid? You must distribute to a whole person and not a fraction of a person.
