The sum of a number and 3 more than 2 times the number is 21. Find the number. I need to know how to solve this not just the answer please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, you know you have "a number", let's call that 'x'. You also know that x + (3 more than two times the number) = 21. Putting all that together you end up with \[x+(2x+3)=21\] From there you can find 'x', or "the number".
