Can someone please help me? I don't understand. Factor completely: 3x2 + 12x + 7 (3x + 1)(x + 7) (3x + 7)(x + 1) Prime (3x + 4)(x + 3)

Please help? ;-;

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Multiply the first coefficient (3) with the last term (7) to get 3*7 = 21

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Now find two numbers that a) multiply to 21 AND b) add to 12 (the middle coefficient)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factoring is to find the number that when times to another number will to the end result

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

were you able to find those two numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't the solution be Prime?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, it turns out that there are no two whole numbers that satisfy the two conditions above at the same time so that points tot he fact that 3x^2 + 12x + 7 can't be factored which means it's prime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much c':

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

prime would be good
