OpenStudy (jlastino):

Someone explain to me where a compass' needle points...currently confused with magnetic poles x_x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

needle points towards north always just to match direction flow of magnetism of earth. .

OpenStudy (shane_b):

A compass needle is essentially a tiny bar magnet with the north magnetic pole of the needle typically marked with a dot or an "N". The north end of the needle is attracted to the magnetic south pole of the Earth and aligns itself to point in that direction. Conclusion: Compasses point to the geographic north pole which is actually the earth's south magnetic pole.
