What is Liberal Arts Math?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_arts

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You learn math, but it's not as rigorous or demanding as a normal math class since it's designed for liberal arts majors (like english majors)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Asdfgh I dont think it pertains to that type of liberal arts.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you learn what you need to know, but you won't go over the crazy proofs that math majors would need to go over (just one example)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is it just a general math course?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So like real world math applications?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it sounds like it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes pretty much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it simple?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like have you taken it?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it depends on what you mean by "simple"

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i haven't, but I've taken applied math courses before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it easier than geometry and trig?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i think it will be more "down to earth" (so to speak) since you'll be able to connect to it more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like financing and budgeting?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm reading here that someone took it as a senior in HS and it's basically stuff you'll encounter in real life (like determining monthly payments for loans and such) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100826165401AAQKHwc
