OpenStudy (dls):

Can the position vector be 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the magnitude can be anything!! only the direction needs to be specified. without magnitude..the vector will be shown like a simple dot..but it will be pointed in a particular predefined direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um, vector without magnitude ( ex. F= 0 ) Has no direction. You may only predict it. This probleme is complex, isnt?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no!! its not complicated at all!! the thing is just of understanding..:) if i say that F=0..it doesn't mean that there is no direction to it...it just means that there is no force to talk of in the first place..you are getting confused with the math of the expression..thats all..:)

OpenStudy (dls):

F=0 Direction=Unpredicatble.

OpenStudy (dls):

unpredictable*

OpenStudy (dls):

Just say, magnitude is almost negligible so..determination of its position is difficult due to its size and so same goes for direction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me clarify...the thing you are talking about arises when you define a force vector on your own...however..let us just say that you are pushing a ball in the forward direction..and stop suddenly..then the force magnitude becomes 0 but still it has a direction...doesn't it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we are talking bot position vector here. So, yes, the position vector of a particle at the origin of the said co-ordinate axis is a zero-vector.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your idea of a force vector being 0 is completely flawed, @neharika. When there is no force in magnitude, there is no force in direction. I mean think about it-when there is no force at all, how can you assign a direction to it? The statement itself becomes nonsensical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i never said that i assigned the direction! this is a situation just after the application of force has stopped..in plain logic..it doesn't make sense..but mathematically..it will..there is a paradox..now that i think of it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you stop applying the force there is no force-->no direction no nothing. That's it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i stick to my argument..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will keep challenging it. I will accept your argument over my dead body. I think you will understand it when you get older.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you prove otherwise?? mathematically?? possibly i am blind to your side of the story..
