You cannot simply know a chord. You must learn them.

Are you trying to learn the theory or how to play them on an instrument, e.g. guitar? Do you know scales?
O_O no, what is scales? i learn piano all by myself by watching videos on youtube. currently i still dont know how to read music notes either. -___-"

Hey, Use this picture showing the piano keys so you can get a visual while reading this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vQBpn133kZ4/TJZqWNowletHI/AAAAAAAAABY/WGSzWC2uw7w/s1600/PianoNotes.gif What is a chord? A chord is just three or more notes that you hit on the piano at the same time. Examples: Hit: A, C, D; at the same time and you've just hit a chord Hit: D, C, D; at the same time, and you've just hit a chord! Hit: A, C, G, D; at the same time, and you've just hit a chord! -------------------------------------------------------- I see you're confused what what a scale is? Do you see the photo I posted above? All the notes in that photo are a scale. Basically a scale goes from, C-B. A scale is: C, D, E, F, G, A, B --------------------------------------------------------- What are those # notes? That number sign you see stands for, "sharp." C# = C sharp A# = A sharp B# = B sharp etc, etc, etc. Basically it means too hit the black note. If you saw, A, B#, D#, you should hit a white key(A), and two black keys(B# and D#) The # sign means you're hitting the black keys to the right. When hitting this you should stay inside the scale. In some more advanced techniques you may hit notes in all different scales. -------------------------------------------------------- What does that 'b' mean? Any note followed by a 'b' is saying the black note to the left. Just how the '#' meant the black note too the right, this one means left. If you saw, A, Cb, A, You would hit A, then the closest C(black note) note to the left, and then the closest A to the right of the Cb. Another example: C, B, Gb Hit the C note in any scale, hit the closest B note to the right, and then hit the closest G(black note) note too the left. --------------------------------------------------------- Stephen here. Minor chords and major chords are a very easy concept. A major scale are happy more cheerful notes. You can compose your own major scale by starting on any key, for this example we're going to start on a, c note. From that c you want to go over two keys, so know your hands should be on a, C and D note. Now move over three notes, your hand should now be on a: C, D, and F. Hit all those notes at the same time. Congratulations! You just hit a C Major. We call it a C Major because the key farthest too the left is a C! Basically in order to hit a major chord you find the key you want to start on, move over two notes, and then move over three notes. Examples: Start on D, move two, move three, that note is a D-major Start on A, move two, move three, that note is a A-major Start on G, move two, move three, that note is a G-major. ------------------------------------------------ What about minors? The same rules apply, however, minors are more sad notes. In order too hit a minor you just reverse the conception above. Instead of starting on a note, moving over two, and then moving over three; you want to start on a note, move over three, and move over two! Examples: Start on C, move three, move two, that is an C-major Start on D, move three, move two, that is a D-major ------------------------------------------------ Regards, Stephen.
thanks stephen! O_O that is the best response i ever got. :DD emmm. basically, its a combination of keys pressed together rite? :D i should learn more. hmm, if i were to make sad songs, i should use minor scales?
Yes! minor-chords for said song. Here is a tip, instead of hitting all the notes in a chord, brake them off into pieces and hit them individually.
i'm trying them straight away! :DD so i've been searching for chords and found out this.... 'diminished' chord. what is that?
Diminished chords are chords that fade. For now work on three finger chords and scales.
