hey could some one help explain why england and russia are different i need to explain how the governments of these two different countries are similar and different. so some examples would help a lot.
That's a big topic! When was the last time England had a revolution? Before 1700. Modern Russia is kind of a democracy, in England the power of kings was eroded, the last king with any power might have been George III and you know what happened with that.
Russia was once the head-honcho of the USSR/Soviet Union - a Communist state. They're now a Republic, with an elected president, though they still have traces of Socialism/Communism. England is very different - they have been for the longest time a monarchy, ruled by a king/queen. The rulers come from the royal family and aren't elected, and tend to have more control than presidents. Whereas England is more republican (right) in terms of gov, Russia is more democratic (left).
Yes, but in modern times the monarchy has essentially no power. Not since the 1700s. And I certainly disagree with the last statement.
^ You're right - the monarchy's function is more of a figurehead. Really good for tourism, though. But I believe that it is a monarchy, but only technically. And the last statement pertains more to purely government types. And wouldn't Russia be more 'left', as they were once a Communist state?
.. Modern Russia is actually very hard to classify; they're a semi-republic, have socialist roots, but are in reality very authoritarian. :l Hmm. What do you think?
I think authoritarian is orthogonal or not related to left v. right. Putin's is highly authoritarian. I think not much of the socialist roots remain, but some. Not sure.
Putin's Russia
Russia's socialism wasn't even what Marx intended, at least with Stalin's rule :l And yeah, Putin is very authoritarian; the recent protests against him were crushed. Kind of frightening. In that case, I guess the consensus is that Russia and England are both based on a republic-style government, though Russia is more authoritarian and England more democratic. Right?
