During the campaign of 1828, the Democratic Party changed by A. crafting more nationalist policies. B. veering away from Jeffersonian principles. C. developing a system of local and state committees. D. denouncing the spoils system.
hmm i think the answer is d? hold on
i know it is not (D)
? why is that?
i dont know
hmm now your making me doubt myself?
It could be a since it was the election of Andrew Jackson, and the formation of the Democratic Party which contributed to making the election of 1828 and Jackson's presidency a watershed in the evolution of the American political system... but i think d.
wait the denouncing of the spoils system happened after jackson.... it was corrupt, so hmm..
this is a hard one
the answer has to be d because after the election there was a return to a two-party system, and was the precursor of the familiar two-party system we know today. here: http://history1800s.about.com/od/leaders/a/electionof1828.htm
i think (B)
why?
The Election of 1828 By the election of 1828, Jackson’s supporters called themselves Democrats, not Democratic Republicans. Jacksonian Democracy triumphed in the presidential election of 1828. With 56 percent of the popular vote and two thirds of the electoral votes, Jackson defeated Adams. A rowdy crowd attended Jackson’s inauguration in Washington, D.C. Their raucous con- duct symbolized the triumph of the democratic style over the alleged aristocracy represented by John Quincy Adams. Jackson owed his victory to his campaign manager Martin Van Buren, who revived the Jeffersonian partnership of southern planters and northern com- mon people. The party promised a return to Jeffersonian principles: strong states and a weak federal government that would not interfere in slavery. Only those principles, Van Buren argued, could keep sectional tensions from destroy- ing the Union.
A or B
well, i don't know i seem to be getting everything wrong today...
thanks :)
no your smart
Because around that time the Demo-Rep had defeated the Federalist party so the Democratic party was fairly new and was kind just starting to walk.
I would say B over A because at this time federalism wasnt popular.
@mastercat i think you may be right on this one!
I hope. Ive recently studied about the Statesman and Federalist.
:)
for some reason though i feel as if the answer is d....
but, youre probably correct.
yes but i put D and it sed i got it rong
go with b.
Jackson invented the spoils system.
So if not D then B.
yes, and then it was considered corrupt...
Yeah they thought it was a loyalist policy and undemocratic.
exactly, so go with b.
yes i will :)
i was thinking C bc if you look under that paragraph you got in your textbook titled A ew party structure then it talked about the local and state committees and conventions
the answer is C i found it at the bottom of page 251 ch 7 section 4 in history online text book.
