Explain why the graph shown may be misleading.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Look at the size of the trucks and compare that with the size of the compact cars

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

notice anything about the size of the drawing and the number

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

psychologically, the bigger size of the drawing for the trucks may trick people into thinking there are more trucks (since bigger usually means more)...but this is simply not true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get the meaning of 'misleading'. so just like you said people might think there are same amount of trucks with compact and midsize?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, the misleading part is that people might think that there are more trucks than compacts when it's actually the other way around

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The size of the trucks is very misleading. automatically when you look at it, you think there are more trucks because they are much larger and they stick out, disregarding the key next to the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. alrite.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they might be misled because the bigger trucks = more trucks

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this might be esp true if they make a very quick glance at it (and don't take time to actually process it)

ya. thanks for helping! it was a lot of help.
