Give an example of a trinomial written in descending order. State the degree of your polynomial.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"tri" nomial means it has three terms write anything in one variable with three terms here is my example \[x^2+4x+5\] you can make up your own

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankyou I mainly just dont know how to find the degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not very hard right? you can write \[5x^2-3x+1\]\[7x^2+9x-6\] etc etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

degree just means the largest exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the two examples above the largest exponent is 2, so the degree is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought it would have to be like 5x-3x+1x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i wrote \[3x^4+5x^2+1\] the degree would be 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay thankyou but it doenst have to have 3 "letter terms"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no, that is not a trinomial, because \[5x-3x+1x=3x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean three variables? no, just three terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thankyou very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw, hope it is clear
