Determine the type of boundary line and shading for the graph of the inequality y > 2x + 6 Dashed line with shading on the side that includes the origin. Solid line with shading on the side that does not include the origin. Dashed line with shading on the side that does not include the origin. Solid line with shading on the side that includes the origin.

I just need the rules for graphing inequality please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or actually what does include the origin, or not include the origin mean.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

origin is the point (0,0)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if there is a solid line under the inequality; then we use a solid line in the graph

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is there a solid line under the inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it's going to be parted.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

..dashed, yes good; does the point (0,0) make a true statement in the inequaltiy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can't picture it in my head i'm not sure what its getting at

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(0,0) is read as (x=0,y=0) y > 2x + 6 0 0 ------------- 0 > 6 ; is false

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since the line (or curve as the case may be) separates the graph into 2 separate sides; if one point on a side is true, they all are true. Pick the simplest point to check that is clearly on one side of the boundary line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the only thing i cant think of is that it doesn't include the origin because the statement being false
