10^2=5^2+b^2

OpenStudy (callisto):

\[10^2 = 5^2 + b^2\]Subtract \(5^2\) from both sides, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5^2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5^2=b^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100=25+ b^2

OpenStudy (callisto):

@imrickjames 10^2 - 5^2 ≠ 5^2 10^2 - 5^2 = 100 - 25 = ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75

OpenStudy (callisto):

Yup So, you got 10^2 = 5^2 + b^2 b^2 = 10^2 - 5^2 b^2 = 75 Take sqrt on both sides. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square root

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{?} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.66?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats correct, this is also correct \[\sqrt{75}= \sqrt{25}\sqrt{3}=5\sqrt{3}\]

OpenStudy (callisto):

Only 50% correct.. \[b^2 = 75\]\[b=\pm \sqrt{75}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heh my mistake

OpenStudy (callisto):

unless it is stated that b is a positive number or b refers to a side.

another question ( i took a test today and these are some of the questions) how would you graph x=y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could always make a t chart have different values of x, then determine the value of y then just plot the (x,y) coordinate on your graph, then draw a line going through them
