Could someone give me an example of how to factor a trinomial?
You mean like... (x+1)(x-1) = x^2 - 1 or (x+1)(x+3) = x^2 +4x +3 only in reverse?
I think so, I just know you have to start with a trinomial such as 5x+3y+ 2x ?maybe
this might help you http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/polynomials/v/factoring-quadratic-expressions
So using the example you gave 5x+3y+ 2x you can "collect like terms" 5x + 2x and 3y 5x + 2x = 7x and 3y sits by itself so the simplified result is 7x + 3y 7 and 3 don't have any common factors, so we're done.
And better than khan is this http://www.mathtv.com/videos_by_topic Click "algebra" then "factoring" and you will see lots of VERY GOOD (better than Khan) videos. :)
thanks for all your help :) @mathteacher1729
