16 < 3x + 1 < 4 Part 1: Solve the inequality above. Part 2: Describe the graph of the solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ive done this kind of equation multiple times but i keep forgetting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can do things to all three sides of the inequality 16 - 1 < 3x < 4 - 1 15 < 3x < 3 5 < x < 1 so x is between (not inclusive) 1 and 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -1 to all sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide 3x to all sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think there is a problem with this, 16 is clearly not less than 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 3x, just 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Rowan's right. This doesn't work out. The values only work for x > 5 and x < 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so then what would it be???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your question is wrong. You cannot write it out like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x > 5 and x < 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and how would i graph it??
