Choose the ordered pair (x,y) that is a solution of the equation. -15x – 2y = 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you have to do is get the left side of the problem to equal 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-1 -4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. (-3,11) B. (2,-9) C. (3,-11) D. (-2,9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i posted them

hero (hero):

Okay, so what is preventing you from substituting the values for each point into the equations to test them and see if they are true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know how to do this at all

hero (hero):

I'm sorry to hear that.

hero (hero):

All you do is take each point and substitute their values into the equation one at a time and simplify it to test whether or not the equation is true. For example, the first given point (x,y) = (3,11) means that x = 3, y = 11, therefore I substitute it into the given equation to get -15(3) – 2(11) = 23 Then I simplify it. Both sides of the equal sign will have to be true in order for the ordered pair to be the "chosen one".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! but i still don't know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you ave to do is take an ordered pair and substitute the right number for y and the left number for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So -15x really means -15 times 3 and -2y means -2 times 11. add the two numbers together and whichever set gives you 23 is the correct answer
