4p + 1 > −7 or 6p + 3 < 33 How would the graph look like for this ^

OpenStudy (phi):

the first step is "solve for p" for the 1st relation 4p+1 > -7 add -1 to both sides: 4p+1-1 > -7 -1 can you simplify this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is p>-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or did u have to change the sign

OpenStudy (phi):

you did it right. if you are in doubt, try an easy number like 0 0> -2, and try 0 in the original 4*0+1 > ? -7 1>7 is true. so it works. you only have to "flip signs" if you divide or multiply by a negative number. for example -4p > 1 if you divide by -4, you have to flip the > to < like this: p< -1/4 but one way to stay out of trouble is ADD +4p to both sides -4p+4p> 1+4p 0> 1+4p then add -1 to both sides -1>4p now divide by 4 -1/4 > p or p < -1/4 (no flipping of signs)

OpenStudy (phi):

back to your problem. solve for p in 6p + 3 < 33

OpenStudy (phi):

so you get p > -2 and p<5 often written as -2 < p < 5 |dw:1345042448547:dw|
